TRUST AND APPROVAL HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON PARTY IDENTIFICATION

There are deep divides across parties for approval on President Obama’s health care legislation. 75 percent of Democrats said they approved of Obama and Congress’s 2010 legislation, which stands at stark contrast from the 12 percent of Republicans who say they approve of it. 60 percent of Independents said they disapprove of legislation, while 36 percent approve.

Voters said they trusted their own party more to handle healthcare, with 93 percent of Democrats saying they trusted Democrats most and 95 percent of Republicans saying they trusted Republicans most. Independent respondents leaned towards the Republican Party, polling at 53 percent.

DIFFERENCES AMONG PARTIES REGARDING CAMPAIGN FOCUS ON 2010 HEALTHCARE LAW

Democrats say campaigns taking place in their area are talking about the issue of healthcare the right amount, with 40 percent of each party saying the issue had a good level of conversation. Nearly one-third of Republicans and Independents said campaigns were talking about health care “the right amount.” 19 percent of Democrats said that the campaigns were talking about the issue of healthcare too much, which was 10 percentage points above the other parties.
